Giving: A Vital Part of Your Parish and Your Community

Giving is essential to your parish’s survival as well as your ability to help your community. Your parish relies on donations from parishioners to be able to keep the doors open and help others in need. Without these donations coming in, you are not able to continue the Lord’s work. You must have multiple ways in which your parishioners can give.

Here are a few reasons to encourage your parishioners to give:

  • Donating, giving, collections, or tithing, whatever you chose to call it, is a direct command from God. It allows your parish to provide for the spiritual and emotional wellbeing of your parishioners as well as meet their physical needs.  Meeting your parishioners where they are to give is vital. Offering options like online, text, and mobile giving allows them to be able to donate from anywhere.
  • Donations allow for the upkeep of your building, support activities, and operations. Some operations include the giving to Catholic Charities and fund priests and missionaries to help spread the gospel. Remind your parishioners of this and continue to encourage them to use whatever way they would like to give to the parish.
  • Gifts are not just used for spreading the gospel or saving souls. They are used to provide basic needs like food, clothing, and shelter for people who are in need. Let your parishioners know their money is being put to good use.

No matter which ways your parishioners choose to give, remind them of the importance of catholic church giving and give them options on the ways that they can give. In Matthew 19:21 the Lord says “Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.”
