I’m sure you’re tired of hearing “things have changed.” But as with most other aspects of our lives, we have had to rethink how to move forward. We’ve all experienced changes within our Mass – the greeting, communion, bulletins, collections, etc. – but what about the life events we observe in our parishes?
Funerals, weddings, and baptisms are events where we want to be able to experience the support and love of our closest friends and family. Some may be comfortable streaming these over Facebook, but surely not most. These are private events that deserve to remain sacred and dignified.
Many large churches are equipped to do streaming on a private platform. But now, even smaller churches can have this ability through their ChMS vendor. This means that life events can now be celebrated with a limited number of in-person guests and the balance are able to view the event online. The online guests are also able to participate in the hymns and prayers along with leaving private messages and prayers for the family. This by no means remedies the absence of not being able to attend in-person, but it helps let others share in events that might not otherwise be open for them to attend and offer their love and support.
Hopefully, we will soon see more normalcy in our lives, but until then we will have to make the best of the situation.
Lord, you are Holy above all others, and all of the strength that I need is in your hands. Amen.
